Delicate pendant flowers, with outer red and inner yellow petals, blooming from May to June. Use by people: [edible, medicinal] In Haida called ‘red rain-flowers’, and should not be picked or it would rain. Different indigenous groups had various medicinal uses for the roots and leaves. Flowers are favoured by butterflies and hummingbirds. Delicate airy foliage in spring to early summer dies back and goes dormant in late summer heat. Hybridizes readily with cultivated varieties so keep well separate if you want to propagate from seed.
