Fragrant white-pink blossoms in April-May. The small, yellow-reddish fruits are eaten by birds and other wildlife. They ripen in September but may persist throughout the winter.

Blossoms attract pollinators. The fruit are eaten by birds & other wildlife. Forms thickets that provide excellent cover. Prefers moist but well drained soil, tolerates heavy clay.
