Western Yarrow is an important native wildflower and pollinator plant. Its flowers are an excellent nectar source for butterflies and native bees and is a host plant for many caterpillars including the American Painted Lady butterfly. It also attracts beneficial predatory insects. Tall, with densely hairy, lacy, fern- like leaves with flat-topped clusters of white or pink, aromatic flowers that bloom from June to August.
A tough perennial that grows and spreads prolifically. Tolerant of a variety of disturbed sites and poor soil.
Sow indoors 8-10 weeks before planting out after the last frost date. Transplant or direct sow in early spring or early autumn. Seeds can take 10 to as long as 100 days to sprout, so be patient. Bottom heat speeds germination.
