USE BY PEOPLE & CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE
Many nations had multiple uses, including making the leaves into a tea for stomach problems. The berries are often too juicy to dry, but would be made into fruit leathers and berry cakes. Berries preserved and processed during summer months would be a staple for winter and stored in specially woven food stores to last through until spring.
WILDLIFE VALUE
The flowers are important for local pollinators, and the berries are eaten by a wide range of animals. Host plant for numerous caterpillar species.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Can be propagated by rooting runners from the mother plant. Prefers coarse, sandy soils.
