Fast-growing when young and often the first species to grow in a burned area. Noted for its white bark, which peels in papery strips to reveal an orange-brown inner bark. Flowers appear in early spring followed by cone-like fruits that mature in late summer
Best grown in moist, acidic, sandy or rocky, well-drained soils, but will tolerate a range of soil types. It does well in full sun to part shade, but best foliage colour occurs in full sun.
